“Ability New Brunswick came through for Jordan and our family at the most difficult and challenging time.”

Mobility has been a major challenge for Jordan Hicks for much of his life, so getting his own set of wheels in the form of a scooter has opened bright new horizons for this young man from Dalhousie, N.B.
“Spinal surgery at the age of four allowed him to walk independently for 10 years,” explains Jordan’s mother, Charlene.
At the age of 22, Jordan has had plenty of past experience with mobility devices, and most of it has been problematic. The devices have been too awkward for him to use properly and actually caused strain on his hips and minor injuries to his knees.
“In time, his hip dysplasia slowly progressed to the point of needing a rollator for long distances, and shortly after that, his rollator was his only method of ambulating. This was not only challenging for him to adjust to, but also limited things we could do together as a family. His spasticity and limited mobility caused extreme frustration.”
Jordan’s frustration ended when Ability New Brunswick came through with funding for a Pursuit XL mobility scooter that has propelled him to a new sense of freedom, safety and independence.
“We will be forever grateful, thankful and blessed to have such an amazing organization in our corner, advocating for the same goal – independence and safety,” Charlene says.
The scooter allows Jordan to get out and about, despite the many hills in his community.
“This new unit has not only given him more independence, but also confidence that he will be safe and not tip. He now has the ability to go on and off curbs with no issues, whereas other models did not allow a smooth, safe transition,” Charlene says.
