Ability NB was pleased to present the following Caring Community Partner Awards in 2010:
Brunswick Accessible Taxi (B.A.T) is an inclusive, service-oriented company committed to providing the best possible service to Fredericton area passengers with mobility conditions. A long time vision of Doug Bridgman, the Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations, the B.A.T. mobile is Fredericton’s only accessible taxi service. For many years, Fredericton was the only capital city in Canada without an accessible taxi service. This much needed service has finally provided residents of Fredericton with an alternative option to parallel transit. Many of our clients have described the freedom that this service has provided to ensure they can access their community. And the B.A.T.mobile is well known for its above and beyond service. Recently, we held an active living event where a client, who does not have many social opportunities, was eager to attend the event. Unfortunately, city transit could not accommodate her scooter. The B.A.Tmobile ensured that they scheduled a trial with the client the day before the event to ensure she could access the service with ease and feel confident the day of the event. Now that’s a caring community partner.

More recently, they played an an instrumental role in our active living project by hosting a Texas Hold’em Poker night for our clients. They contributed the volunteers and supplies for the event and even provided a lesson to the participants. They also donated the grand prize gift certificate to the winner.
